CMI publishes 2019 Annual Report

Holly Welles ・ Carbon Mitigation Initiative

At the end of each year, the Carbon Mitigation Initiative (CMI) publishes a report featuring highlights from CMI-related research activities, program milestones, honors and accomplishments, additions of new participants, and high points from the CMI annual meeting.

This year’s report provides an overview of new research on realizing net-zero emissions of greenhouse gases in the United States; enhancing the understanding of the role that soil carbon plays in the global carbon cycle; and addressing critical unknowns in methane cycling. Also featured are ongoing research efforts focused on modeling oxygen concentrations in the Indian ocean; evaluating the impact of climate change and volcanic eruptions on cyclone activity; modeling carbon storage in terrestrial vegetation; analyzing how irrigation and tropical forests impact climate change; measuring methane emissions from the oil and gas industry; and finding novel sustainable clay-based cements in order to reduce carbon emissions.

A complete list of all 2019 CMI-related research publications is located at the end of the report.
