Energy systems analysis and modeling intersecting engineering, environmental science, economics, and public policy and aimed at identifying rapid, sustainable, engineering-based transitions to low or zero-carbon energy and industrial systems; technologies for biomass and fossil energy conversion to fuels and electricity with CO2 capture and storage; technologies for balancing variable renewable electricity.
