Contribute to a coherent understanding of the interactions between ecosystems and climate so that we may better understand past and predict future changes in the environment. Use numerical models with varying degrees of complexity to synthesize and clarify current understanding because these interactions involve diverse processes occurring on many spatial and temporal scales. Current research has focused on modeling connections between ocean biogeochemistry and climate from human to geological time scales and understanding large scale patterns in the response of terrestrial species to anthropogenic climate warming.
