Research Interests

Kumaran Coopamootoo is a postdoctoral research associate in the Sustainable Cements Group at Princeton University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Mauritius, a master’s degree in structural engineering and a Ph.D in civil engineering from Newcastle University (UK). Before Princeton, he was a postdoc in the Materials 4 Life Research Group at Cardiff University (UK). At Princeton, his research focuses on improving the CO2 storage capacity of mineral systems by providing an insight on changes in mineral surfaces once they start dissolving. His other research interests include designing sustainable building materials with low emission precursors and self-healing technologies in concrete. These are supported by his experience with both multiscale experimental and simulation techniques.
