Research Interests
I am broadly interested in the interplay between the geosphere and the microbial biosphere. My research centers around characterizing the ways in which phylogenetic and functional diversity within microbial communities translate to specific biogeochemical functions. I am particularly interested in the role of microbes in the formation and maintenance of recalcitrant organic carbon in soils and sediments. I use a diverse suite of tools from molecular ecology, phylogenetics, modeling, ‘omics and geochemistry to decipher microbe-environment relationships.
